NY & NJ’s Diabetes Leg Pain Specialist
Common Causes
Diabetes is a medical condition wherein our bodies can’t control the amount of sugar (Glucose) in our blood. This happens when the pancreas, a gland located behind the stomach, doesn’t produce enough insulin or when the body can’t use insulin effectively. You often need diabetes leg pain treatment after a lifetime of suffering through this.
Insulin is a crucial hormone. It helps the cells in our bodies use sugar as energy. When there isn’t enough insulin or the body can’t use it properly, sugar builds up in the bloodstream and damages various organs and tissues. This is what leads to diabetes leg pain.
There are two types of diabetes. First, Type 1. Then, Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is typically diagnosed in children and young adults and occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. Type 2 diabetes is more common and usually occurs in adults. It appears when the body becomes resistant to insulin or when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough.
If left untreated, diabetes can lead to more than just diabetes leg pain. It can lead to other problems like heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, and nerve damage.
Over time, these high blood sugar levels can damage the nerves and blood vessels of the legs and feet. It’s called “Diabetic Neuropathy,” and it can lead to numbness, tingling, or burning sensations in your lower body. In addition, blood vessel damage can cause poor circulation or dilated and stretched veins, which can lead to a mix of other symptoms and conditions.

Diabetes Leg Pain Treatment
The best way to decrease symptoms and avoid further problems is to see a caring, thorough physician. An evaluation should include an NCV/EMG for nerve damage and a blood flow and circulation ultrasound for vascular disease.
At Wellness and Pain, we have practitioners that can not only provide these important evaluations but can also provide the caring treatment necessary to improve your symptoms and increase your quality of life.
